How To: Kong- A Lesson in Texture

This Tutorial is a study in Daggers and Dots:

Mike goes into great detail as he explains the layering techniques he used to create complex textures like leathery skin and hair on his awesome beast, KONG.

We are also including some still photos and color use references below:

Mike created a very simple mask to place the eyes, nose and mouth in proper perspective on the guitar.

The underpainting was done with Mike’s “Perfect White” and just a bit of green.

The first color used was a light grayish-green then a dark black and blue mix

The darkest color was black with a bit of blue and purple.

Highlights were done with white with a drop of orange…. and the new HOBO!!

Color washes for the sky and trees were done with sky blue, green and yellow candy.
